Welcome to our latest issue of Maricopa Currents, our newsletter to reach all County employees.
So much information to share with you and so little time. Those of us on the communications team are continually fascinated by the variety and quality of the work you do and we want to seek out those stories. Feel free to share what you and your colleagues are working on and what we might share with the world! You can also see stories as they are released on our Facebook page and Twitter.
We are now creating a lot of videos about county departments and the issues facing the Board of Supervisors. Our digital journalist, Erika Flores, likes to get behind the scenes and tell the stories that don’t receive coverage in the news. In this issue, you can learn more about our MCLEAPS internship partnership with ASU and how a program is getting jail inmates insurance as they are released, lowering the chances of them coming back to jail.
And of course, the county is seeing some major changes at the top. County Manager Tom Manos is retiring in May and CFO Shelby Scharbach will be the interim County Manager during the national search for a replacement. A special service award has been created in Mr. Manos’ name and an employee providing excellent customer service will be recognized with this honor every April. Many of you have met Mr. Manos during his service at the county and know he is a true humanitarian and this award is fitting.
There is much more inside! We hope you enjoy it! If you have stories you’d like to share, please email them to us.
